WHAI team was in Ayamelum LGA to prepare the girls and engage the communities' stakeholders in a town hall meeting on the intervention plans.
At the Community Secondary School, Omor, the students were sensitized, encouraged to remain focused in their studies and finish their education rather than dropping out from school.
They were invited to voluntarily participate in the launching of the Girls Lead Club slated on 11th October 2020.
The launching will be done by Miss Tukura (43rd Miss Nigeria). Our team explained the aims, objective and importance of the Club.
The girls were educated on the dangers of early child marriage, but with education, they can do amazing things. We have partners who are ready to empower interested girls into various technical field.
In response, the students were thrilled and promised to participate in the Girls Lead Club Launching. They were also excited about such development and promised to do their best to see that the programme becomes successful in their school and community.
The girls who volunteered to become members of the Club, learnt and sang the Girls Lead Club Anthem.
The team headed to another community, Igbakwu to meet with the stakeholders for a Town Hall Meeting. The team spoke on the dangers associated with girl child marriage such as the increase in VVF, Cervical Cancer, Economic Effect, etc. Which they affirmed they are no longer happy with.
@WHAIafrica encouraged the community stakeholders to keep advocating for girls so that they can complete high school education. They are expected to carry same gospel to other parents in the community and help stop forcing their children into marriage.
#WHAIafrica also met with the Omor Women Leader. She received the team well and promised to keep advocating to end girl child marriage and encouraging young girls to finish their education.
After listening to WHAI mission, she thanked the team of young volunteers for such sacrifice and passiin to see that Ayamelum LGA reaches a high level of growth and development especially in empowering and educating her young girls.
