June 27 annually is observed as Micro, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises Day (MSME Day). Research shows that Small scale industries are the backbone of economies of developing countries. They account for 60-70% of total employment and 50% of GDP.
UN General Assembly decided to observe 27 June as MSME Day to raise public awareness of their contribution in sustainable development and poverty alleviation. Entrepreneurs are expected to share their contributions to the economy, challenges as well as opportunities in their sector. Social media hashtag is #MSMEDay. Let’s use it to raise awareness of the need for greater investment into small and mid-sized businesses in Africa.
